DSM
Scienticts at DSM are currently researching breakthroughs in second generation biofuels. They have managed to invent a new type of yeast that helps ferment sugars. DSM plans to team up with POET LLC to create a factory that uses corn and the unedible parts of corn to convert them into gasoline.
UPM is currently building and industrail sized factory that will process biofuels from wood sources. Their plans for fuel use only non food sources and should make a fuel that releases 85% less carbon dioxide when burned.
United States Energy Department
The United States Energy Department helps out the biofuel industry in so many ways. The Energy Department encourages research in all types of biofuels and pushes for a cleaner source of energy. They set up quotas to keep the biofuel industry from producing too much fuel, but enough to help the industry grow.
The state of California has awarded many research programs and companies alike grants allowing them to either build factories or do reaserch in the feild of biofuels. Since 2009, Califronia has given over $123 million dollars to various programs directly related to biofuels alone, not to metion other types of renewable energy. The money has been spent doing research on biogas, biodisel, ethanol, CEPIP, and towards forming a better infrastructre to diseminate and store biofuels.

BP
BP owns three different facilities in which it converts sugar into biofuels in Brazil. They are foccused on developing new technologies, and finding out new possible ways to extract biofuels. BP is collaborating with the Energy Bioscience Institute which is a group of vairous colleges that conduct research on exploring new ways to apply bioscience and develop new technologies.
